NON-INVASIVE BODY-CONTOURING WITH FAT-DISSOLVING INJECTIONS CALLED AQUALYX
Those annoying small pockets of fat under your chin, around your thighs, on your tummy or under your bra strap can now be reduced without surgery –  thanks to revolutionary fat-dissolving injections called Aqualyx.

Aqualyx is a non-surgical solution to minimise and remove stubborn localised pockets of fat. It is ideal for those who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet but have pockets of fat that won’t shift, even with focused exercise.

This technique, known as Aqualysis or Aquaplasty, consists of injecting the solution into localised fat deposits. Aqualyx consists of phosphatidylcholine – a natural substance which, when given in higher doses, can cause the destruction of fat cells.

Destroying the fat cells is a long-term solution provided you retain a stable weight, eat healthily and continue exercise as usual. Aqualyx leads to a permanent reduction of fatty tissue; once removed, fat cells will not reappear.

WHO IS THE AQUALYX INJECTABLE FAT TREATMENT FOR?

There are some other interesting uses for Aqualyx:

For those people who are regular gym goers but cannot shed the last bit of fat to define a six pack, Aqualyx can be used very successfully to give that definition.
For people with lipomas, Aqualyx can be injected into these.
For people with a buffalo hump, Aqualyx can be used to reduce the size of this.
People with uneven lumps of fat after other treatments such as Vaser or liposuction can have smoothness restored with Aqualyx.

ARE THE RESULTS OF AQUALYX PERMANENT?

The fat cells that have been destroyed by Aqualyx are permanently eliminated from the body. If you gain weight in the future you may put it on in a different distribution to where you would have done prior to Aqualyx treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE AQUALYX TREATMENT?

Initially we will have a consultation to discuss your areas of concern and to take a thorough medical history. This will also involve weighing you, examining you to make sure treatment is appropriate, and taking some photographs as a record of your starting point.

We will then mark the area of the fat deposit and ask you to look in a mirror and confirm that this is the area that bothers you. You will then be positioned on the couch in a way that gives best access to the area to be treated.

The treatment itself takes anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area we are treating. Usually each area only requires one or two needle insertion points, although we will fan the product in several directions from this one point.

Typically, two injection spots are required for each area being treated; patients report good tolerance of the treatment and an anaesthetic solution is normally added prior to injection for greater comfort.

The treatment will be repeated between two and eight times depending on the number of small pockets of fat tissue to be reduced. The injections are repeated every three to four weeks.

After each treatment patients can expect some swelling, redness and skin irritation and tenderness in the area treated, which will subside after four to six days.

Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections - Post Treatment Instructions?

Avoid applying cosmetics to the treated area for 24 hours Avoid vigorous or physically demanding exercise for 4 weeks Moderate exercise, a healthy diet and other lifestyle modifications are encouraged and may enhance results Avoid other cosmetic or beauty treatments in the same area for at least a week Use a high SPF sun-protection after treatment and avoid sun exposure and tanning Avoid extremes of hot or cold to the area treated Gentle massage may encourage fat drainage contact the clinic as soon as possible if you have any concerns I understand if I suffer any adverse reaction that is not expected or concerns me, I must contact the clinic immediately. The practitioner or the clinic cannot take responsibility for complications or results that have not been reported, assessed, documented and managed when you become aware of a potential problem.

Once the local anaesthetic starts to wear off you may feel quite tender. Make sure you have some Paracetamol you can take, but avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Ibuprofen and Aspirin).

The treated area will look swollen initially, but you should expect this swelling to double in size within the first 24-48 hours. The swelling will go down over the course of the next week, although in rare cases may persist longer. Remember – SWELLING IS GOOD! The more you swell the more you are responding to treatment.

The treated area will look red and feel warm afterwards, and this may persist for 2 days.

You may develop some bruising in the treated area, may feel itchy, and may have some minor aches and pains.

The skin overlying the treated area will feel numb, even after the local anaesthetic wears off. This can persist for up to a month.

Rarely you can develop systemic symptoms such as nausea, diarrhoea, intracycle menstrual bleeding (in women) and hyperpigmentation.

We recommend wearing pressure garments of some description to improve your comfort. This could be a pair of Spanx, or we may suggest using an old pair of tights tied around your chin overnight to help reduce swelling.
Drink plenty of water after your Aqualyx treatment.
Follow a low-fat diet for the period between your Aqualyx treatment and your follow-up appointment. This is because you do not want to cause additional stress to your liver by having to cope with processing two sources of fat.
We would suggest avoiding exercise on the day of treatment. After this you can resume gentle exercise as and when you feel ready. You may not feel ready for strenuous exercise for the first week, as you may feel a little tender.
Avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medication as this will dampen your body’s response to the Aqualyx and potentially mean you do not respond to treatment as well as you would otherwise have done.
Avoid exposure to extremes of temperature (including saunas, steam rooms and sunbathing) for a week after treatment.
Keep pinching the treated area to continue stimulating it. This will improve the body’s response to the Aqualyx.

Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections - PreTreatment Instructions?

The practitioner will describe and discuss in detail the procedure including possible benefits and risks and answer any specific questions you may have. The practitioner will advise on what the expected outcome is likely to be in their professional opinion. However, results cannot be guaranteed and mild to moderate improvements may often be achieved. If you are unfamiliar with any of the terms used or do not understand then ask for further explanation from the practitioner. You can take home a copy of the consent form, pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions to further research and consider the treatment and to discuss with third parties if you wish before deciding on the treatment. It is important to avoid anti-inflammatory medications (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen or diclofenac) for at least 5 days prior to treatment unless this is prescribed for a medical indication and this should be discussed with your practitioner. If you are taking any other blood thinning agents, this should be specified in your medical history form. Similarly, avoid alcohol for 48 hours prior to treatment as this increases the risk of bruising and bleeding. Arnica may be taken for 5 days prior to treatment to lessen the risk of bruising.

Make sure you’ve allowed for enough downtime after the procedure. If you’re having the neck treated, you may wish to bring a scarf with you. Be aware that, for the best results, more than one treatment is necessary.

Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections - What can I expect after treatment?

Following treatment, there will be some transient redness, swelling and tenderness which may last for a few days but often described as mild to moderate and not interfering with normal activities. Occasionally there may be some bruising which may last for a week or longer. Pain, numbness, tingling, hypersensitivity or altered sensation can occur if the injection damages a nerve, this is rare and recovers over time in almost all cases. Due to the action of fat dissolving injections and ultrasound cavitation, it takes time for the fat to be eliminated from the body and although some results may appear in the first few days it is normal that the final result is not seen until 6 weeks post-treatment. After treatment, it is not recommended to spend time in the sun or use sunbeds and although exercise is encouraged to help enhance the effects, vigorous and demanding physical activity should be avoided for 4 weeks. Gentle massage of the areas treated may help encourage fat drainage. We strongly recommend the use of compression garments following treatment and the practitioner will advise you on suitable products during your free consultation.

Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections - Are there any side-effects?

Side effects include swelling, and there’s always a possibility of infection, there can be some bruising as well and pain and discomfort. The pain and discomfort usually last up to a week or so and then generally it settles down.

Complications that may occur include:
Prolonged pain lasting for days or weeks.
Allergic reactions (less than 2 in 100,000 cases) which may require emergency treatment.
Nodules (can occur in 5-10% of cases) which are usually only transient and resolve as the fatty tissue is removed.
Damage to surrounding structures (less than 5 in 10,000 cases), including muscle, nerve or blood vessels.
Discolouration (less than 2 in 1,000 cases), usually only temporary and can be reduced by avoiding exposure to UV.
Necrosis of the skin (less than 1 in 10,000 cases) describes the damage caused to the skin by the solution if it comes into contact with it, this can lead to tissue death, blistering, sloughing of the skin, infections and scarring.
Unsatisfactory results, including stubborn fat, asymmetry, irregularity or loose skin.

Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections - How many sessions will I need?

The time taken for a treatment session will depend upon the size of the area and indication being treated. Treatment can take between 30 – 60 minutes per treatment and you will typically require 2 – 8 treatments, 4 weeks apart. Some people may see significant results after 1 or 2 sessions. Treatment for fat pockets underneath the neck and chin, for example, may require 1 – 3 treatments of 2 – 3 injections, while treatment for fat pockets on the hips and thighs may require 8 treatments.

Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections - Is the treatment painful?

We mix the Aqualyx solution with a small amount of a local anaesthetic drug called lignocaine to make it more comfortable. The needle we use is very fine. Most people describe the procedure itself as a little uncomfortable but not painful. You could take some Paracetamol tablets an hour before treatment if you are concerned.
