What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections (Botox) ?

Anti-Wrinkle Injections (commonly known as 'Botox' injections) uses Botulinum toxin A, a purified bacterial substance, to help reduce muscle contraction and subsequently reduces the formation of wrinkles when used for facial muscles. It is a safe product for cosmetic use as well as for medicinal uses within healthcare including for the treatment of oesophageal spasms and bladder overactivity as examples.

What are the costs for anti-wrinkle (Botox) injections?

At Birdsfoot Lane Pharmacy, Luton we use Botox made by Allergan; which has provided us with fantastic results for our clients.

These prices are for women.

How soon will I see the results?

Botox takes about a day to three days to fully kick in, as time is required for the synaptosomal process to be disrupted. In some cases, it takes up to five days for the full results to occur.

How long does Botox last?

Botox is not a permanent procedure. Results typically last for about four to six months. Lines and wrinkles will start to re-appear as muscle action is gradually restored. However, with time the lines and wrinkles frequently appear less severe since the facial muscles have been trained to relax. For people with heavier frown lines, they tend to possess muscles that are stronger and bulkier. In this case, the muscle motion will return faster than those with lighter muscles between the brows. A Botox treatment will then last for about two to three months.

Who should not go for anti-ageing injections (Botox)?

Pregnant women should avoid going for Botox treatments as this could result in complications. Those mothers who are breastfeeding should also avoid Botox, as well as people with neurological diseases. Take note that Botox does not work on all wrinkles, so please do make a consultation with one of our therapists if you have any specific needs or questions to address.

Are there any side effects of Botox treatments?

A common side effect of Botox is temporary bruising. Headaches might occur but this is quite rare, and will be resolved in one to two days. A minority of patients might see their eyelids drooping, but this is usually solved in three weeks. Do avoid rubbing the treated area for at least 12 hours after injection, or laying down for three to four hours as complications usually develop when the Botox moves around.
